UPSTATE HEALTH WORKFORCE
CENTER CAMPAIGN

The Iroquois Healthcare Alliance, which represents 57 hospitals and health systems, has been working with its members on workforce development issues since 1995. In 2001 Iroquois initiated the Upstate Health Workforce Center (UHWC), an organization that brings together employers, job seekers, educational institutions and other agencies related to workforce development.

In the summer of 2004, with the aid of a state grant and marketing expertise from Rueckert Advertising, UHWC launched a widespread advertising campaign to persuade upstate New York students in grades 6-12 and career-changing adults to consider healthcare careers for their future.

Health Care: Get Into It! You'll Get So Much Out of It is a comprehensive marketing and public relations campaign aimed at building awareness of all health care careers, not only nursing, across upstate New York. Our consistent message throughout the campaign will be that healthcare careers offer a wide range of rewards including excellent pay, flexible hours, great benefits, security and stability, the chance to move ahead, and the opportunity to help others.

Supplementing UHWC's own extensive grassroots outreach programs, Rueckert created the campaign's tagline, a poster disseminated to schools, and a print advertisement. We also developed a brochure for distribution to schools, a 30-second cinema advertisement, radio commercials and a video presenting all the advantages of healthcare careers.

Rounding out our campaign were life-size cutouts of typical healthcare workers that were utilized at fairs throughout upstate New York, as well as an exciting new youth-oriented website for the initiative getintohealthcare.com.
