Shedding Light on New York's Accidental President
AUGUST 25, 2011
Over the past year we’ve partnered with Albany Law School on an array of interesting media relations projects. Just recently we lined up interviews about a new book written by Paul Finkelman, the President William McKinley Distinguished Professor of Law and Public Policy and Senior Fellow, Government Law Center.
Prof. Finkelman’s book, Millard Fillmore, tells the story of how a little known vice president played a major role in supporting slavery and sowing the seeds of the Civil War. Mostly self-educated with limited political experience, Fillmore ended up becoming the 13th President of the United States after President Zachary Taylor suddenly fell ill and died.
Toward that end, we sought to build upon national coverage the book had already received, including a solid review from the Wall Street Journal. We decided to target opportunities in those regions of the state in which Fillmore, the ex-congressman and comptroller of New York state, had the strongest ties, namely Western and Central New York, as well as Albany.
Right from the start, interest for interviews was extremely high. Segments were booked with National Public Radio affiliates WAMC-FM and WRVO-FM, as well as write ups coordinated with the Buffalo Daily News, Newsday, and East Aurora Bee, among others.
The professor and law school’s PR staff have been extremely happy with the results. We’re looking forward to tackling the next PR project that comes our way.
Below, Finkelman, who is a specialist in American legal history, constitutional law, and race and the law, discusses his research and the writing process with WNYT Anchor Phil Bayly on the NBC affiliate’s public affairs show, Forum 13.

Agency Helps Shine Spotlight On State Broadcasters
JULY 11, 2011
Late last month we provided media relations support for the New York State Broadcasters (NYSBA) annual Executive Conference, a two-day event for radio and TV professionals featuring industry presentations and a prestigious awards banquet.
To maintain a steady stream of coverage leading up to the event, we created a strategic press release schedule for statewide media and trade publications. Releases highlighted panel discussions featuring some of the most important names in American radio and television, Awards for Excellence in Broadcasting winners, Hall of Fame nominees (including Emmy-winning TV personality Regis Philbin), Broadcaster of the Year recipient (NBC News Anchor and Managing Editor Brian Williams), and Carol M. Reilly winner (veteran journalist Deborah Norville). We also created daily media advisories, as well as traveled to The Sagamore in Bolton Landing to work with media outlets and file press releases.
In a little over four weeks, Rueckert Advertising garnered more than 100 articles about the conference in many of the state's major daily newspapers, including the New York Daily News, Syracuse Post-Standard and Albany Times Union, as well as industry publications such as Broadcasting & Cable, Radio Ink, Radio World, Radio Business Report, TVNewsCheck and Broadcast Newsroom. Other key placements included conference mentions on the June 28th editions of "LIVE! With Regis and Kelly" and "Inside Edition," as well as the "Late Show with David Letterman" on July 25th.
This coverage helped raise further awareness of the trade association, which represents the interests of more than 1,000 television and radio stations in the NYS Senate and Assembly, the US Congress, and various other legislative bodies.

Last month, we also learned that we're a finalist for the 2011 Mark of Excellence awards, sponsored by the New York Capital Region Chapter of the American Marketing Association. The prestigious awards competition recognizes highly effective marketing programs from companies within the Capital Region and is based purely upon bottom-line results. This year's awards dinner will be held Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in downtown Albany.

The agency is no stranger to the highly competitive Mark of Excellence awards. Our social media campaign on behalf of the Freihofer's Run for Women 5K (www.freihofersrun.com) took first place in the 16th annual Mark of Excellence Awards. We also won the night's inaugural "People's Choice Award," in which the general public texted their vote for their favorite results-driven marketing campaign among the year's 10 finalists.
First 5K Accomplished! Thanks Freihofer’s Run for Women.
JUNE 10, 2011
By Linda Mather, Director of Marketing

I did it! I ran my first 5K and loved every minute of it (well, maybe not every minute). The Freihofer’s Training Challenge prepared me for the event, and I was ready. My goal was to finish within 40 minutes and I came in at 38:59. I know my time isn’t impressive to most, but this was such an accomplishment for me. As I’ve mentioned before, I was never a runner and never understood why anyone would want to run. Now I know why.
This wasn’t only a training/accomplishing experience for me, but also a bonding experience. I trained with my BFF Cherie, who was with me every step of the way and we finished the race together. I also trained with my 8-year old daughter, who is a much better runner than me, and encouraged me throughout our run. The trainers at the Training Challenge, Kristen and Patrick, were exceptional and extremely supportive. At times, they practically dragged me by my hair to finish the training runs, but they made me do it and I really appreciate it. My co-workers were always asking how I was doing and encouraging me. And I can’t forget all of my friends and family who were on my side.
So thanks for supporting me. It means a lot. I’ll be back next year to do better. Wonder what my goal will be next year. Is completing it in 30 minutes too aggressive?

Cherie and I after the race. The bonus - a box of free Freihofer's cookies!
